Not to live completely on Cloud 9, we did discuss how there are parts of our country. Parts in neighboring counties where many would give hateful glances at the sight of a biracial friendship. But today, we celebrated living in a city where we truly could come together as sisters and hold hands. (Ok....more like hug.) I know that our brunch was very much a part of Dr. King's dream.

Not just a day off.
Today I went to brunch with two dear friends. Angie and Vita. The conversation was fantastic. Laughing, sharing, intellectual, yet silly. But this wasn't your typical brunch on a Monday off from work. Why not? Well, because this was not just a day off for kicks. There was and is purpose and meaning behind this holiday. Here is why our brunch on this day was so great.... I am white. Angie is white. Vita is black. Fifty years ago, in the city of Tallahassee, our brunch date would not have been possible. We wouldn't have be served at the same table or likely the same part of the restaurant. Today, however, we were brunching, chatting and drinking endless cups of hazelnut coffee as if it were not big thing.
